coordinates all workforce training programs within the Mountain West region, distributes workforce training funds, engages businesses in assessing workforce needs, and provides a variety of workforce development, recruitment and training services directly to businesses and entrepreneurs within the region. Services include arranging short-term classroom training; training business owners or HR staff in the use of NC Works {} and O-Net {}, the U.S. Department of Labor's online resource website; assisting in preparing employee handbooks and employee surveys; pre-employment skills assessment; job profiling; and assistance accessing the federal On-the-Job Training and Incumbent Worker programs. The SWDB also can connect your business with valuable resources for recruiting new employees, including the North Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation {} program, the Veterans Administration representatives who work directly with businesses to match veterans to jobs, and the nearest community college which operates adult education and literacy classes and workforce preparedness pre-employment classes, all excellent sources for labor recruits. Other recruitment and human resources services are provided by local NCWorks Career Centers, which are managed by the SWDB.
